It happens a lot. Someone shares with me that they’ve sent a Second Wound website link to someone they care about, hoping the recipient will learn from the content and perhaps understand the sender better. For me, learning that my fellow survivors feel seen and understood by the website is intensely gratifying. And the website content may, in fact, open a few minds along the way. I hope so! But that is not its intended purpose.

The Second Wound was created to show you that you are not alone even though you may feel lonely. That your feelings are important and valid despite what you’ve been told. And that the devastating experience of being blamed for telling the truth is an all-too-common problem that fits into a predictable pattern. I created the site to help you survive this painful process with the benefit of my knowledge and experience and the camaraderie of your fellow “second wound” survivors.

We are a big group.

Realistically, if you have lived through a significant trauma of any kind, chances are good that you have been revictimized. For sexual abuse and assault survivors, the “troublemaker” label people slap on us is an additional problem. It thwarts the support we need and the compassion we deserve. Learning to live in the aftermath is a lifelong process.

Just as we survivors must continue to learn and evolve, the Second Wound website needs to grow. TSW was ready for a refresh and so, with the help of my graphic designer daughter, and my IT expert husband, we bring you a crisp, new look to carry the TSW message. The Resource page has been updated extensively with new websites (including support groups, non-profits, helplines, and more), books, documentaries, and podcasts. These are all resources that mean a lot to me. I hope they will resonate with you as well.

Please pay the new website a visit and maybe drop me a comment if you are so inclined. Compliments are appreciated. Suggestions and constructive criticism are also welcome (though no solicitations, please). The website and I are both works in progress.

And hey, I know it’s been a while since I’ve sent out an honest-to-goodness blog entry. There are several hand-written posts in my spiral notebook that have somehow failed to make it from the page to WordPress and your email inbox. I hope to get on that soon.

Until then, always remember: your truth matters.
